Why You Need Tallow in Your Skincare

You may be wondering why someone would think to put Tallow (animal fat) on their skin. You may have never even heard of the word 'Tallow'.

If that’s the case, you have come to the right place!

I think we can all agree that the goal of skincare is to have skin that looks and feels the best that it can. It is important to use all natural products that benefit your skin. Free of any preservatives, synthetic chemicals, and artificial fragrances.

This is where the unique, ancestral, and vitamin rich ingredient 'Tallow' comes into play!

In simple terms, Tallow is rendered and purified animal fat. This means that it has many benefits that plant-based skincare does not! Tallow is mostly made up of saturated fats and a small amount of monounsaturated fats.

Do you know what else has this makeup? Our cell membranes. Tallow has a strong resemblance to the oil our skin naturally produces.

Our skin produces an oil called 'sebum'. This sebum plays a pivotal role in maintaining healthy and youthful skin!

Sebum is responsible for moisturizing and protecting the skin barrier. Tallow is extremely similar to our own sebum, as they share an extremely similar molecular structure - so similar that Tallow is easily recognized by our skin, making it an ideal choice to hydrate and nourish the skin with.

Fun Fact: Did you know 'Sebum' in latin actually means 'Tallow' in English!?

Now you may be wondering... what are the benefits of using Tallow-based skincare products?

Ruminant animals store vitamins in their fat. Tallow is loaded with Vitamins A, D, E, and K, all of which are fat-soluble. Most of these vitamins are only found in their true form in animal fats and not in plants.

Each of these vitamins play a key role to nourishing the skin:
  • Vitamin A helps the skin to heal, keeping it hydrated and helping to prevent breakouts. It keeps skin looking young, evens skin tone, and prevents UV ray damage from the sun.

  • Vitamin D decreases inflammation, helps prevent premature aging, and can help with various skin conditions, such as dry skin and eczema symptoms.

  • Vitamin E promotes skin repair. It moisturizes and heals while eliminating free radicals on the skin (which are produced by stressors like pollution and sun exposure).

  • Vitamin K improves the appearance of scars, dark spots, stretch marks, and under-eye circles by speeding up the skin’s healing process and collagen renewal process.
Tallow is also rich in antioxidants, these counteract free radicals from forming on the surface of the skin, which is a result of oxidative stress.

Free radicals are responsible for pre-mature aging and breaking down our skins natural collagen! Antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals and can also lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

This means Tallow has everything needed to support healthy and youthful skin cells!

It gets even better! Tallow also contains CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid. This fatty acid is anti-inflammatory, strengthening the skin while keeping it filled with moisture and even helping to prevent certain cancers.

Palmitoleic Acid is found in Tallow as well, which provides the skin anti-microbial benefits that can help prevent and heal acne.

While you may have never even heard of tallow before, it has been trusted by many for thousands of years! It has been used by the Ancient Egyptians, Austrian Aborigines, Native Americans, Babylonians, and so many more groups and tribes throughout history.

The Himba Tribe, pictured above, use animal fat on their skin daily! They mix animal fat with a type of ground red stone (red ochre.) They attribute this mixture to keeping their skin soft and youthful looking.

As you can see, Tallow has a variety of benefits for the skin. However, not all Tallow is created equal.

Grass-fed tallow has a much higher vitamin content than grain-fed cattle. This means that if you want to reap all the benefits of using Tallow, you’re going to need to use grass-fed and finished Tallow.

This is where Fancy Farm comes in.

Fancy Farm uses high-quality grass-fed tallow in every skincare product to ensure that your skin is getting the maximum amount of vitamins and nutrients possible.

Tallow can provide nutrients to help heal any type of skin, regardless of whether you have dry or chapped skin, sun damage, rashes, burning, itching, wrinkles, calluses, or cracks. Tallow is even a great choice for those suffering from eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions.

Not only does it work for anyone, but Tallow is also easy to apply. It can go anywhere on the body and absorbs into the skin easily.

So, if you’re looking for an all natural product that will:
